The Orange County Human Relations Commission will host the Pauli Murray Human Relations Awards Ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 26. The event will be held in the Central Orange Senior Center Ballroom at 103 Meadowlands Drive from 3 to 5 p.m.
The Pauli Murray Award is presented annually by the Human Relations Commission to an Orange County youth, an Orange County adult and an Orange County business that have served the community with distinction in the pursuit of equality, justice and human rights for all residents.
This year’s ceremony will include musical entertainment, poetic recitals by the Sacrificial Poets, the winners of the Human Rights Student Essay Contest reading their winning essays and the recipients of the Pauli Murray Human Relations Award being recognized.
The public is encouraged to attend this community event. A reception will follow the ceremony.

Orange County Department on Aging resource fair
Latonya Brown, the Orange County Department on Aging's resource and benefits specialist, announced plans for the third annual Resource Connections Fair. This year's fair, themed "Live well, Laugh often, Love much," will be held Wednesday, March 23, at the University Mall in Chapel Hill. The four-hour event will begin at 10 a.m. and features more than 50 agencies and specialists seeking to improve and enrich the lives of local older adults.
"The fair will provide important tools to help seniors and their families gain information on how to become motivated and empowered to take charge of their lives," Brown said.
Specialists will be on-site to provide wellness screenings, professional insight and expert advice on such issues as assisted living, Alzheimer's disease, Medicare system navigation, financial counseling and legal planning. Steve Toll—a well-known, classically trained and versatile local musician—is just one of several sources of entertainment scheduled. Free refreshments will be provided, and a raffle will offer the opportunity to win some great prizes.
